The Power of Connection: Why Reflexologists Should Join the Washington Reflexology Association-

Tianne Curtiss CR,LMT

In the world of reflexology, we are guided by healing hands, intuition, and a deep understanding of the human body. Yet, while our work is often quiet and individual, the strength of our profession depends on something far greater: unity. That’s where the Washington Reflexology Association (WRA) plays a vital role—and why every reflexologist in the state should consider becoming a member.

Standing Together: The Importance of Professional Support

Reflexology is more than a modality—it’s a calling. But to thrive in this field, we need more than technical skill. We need advocacy, continuing education, ethical standards, and a strong sense of community. A professional association like the WRA brings all of this together.

Here’s why supporting and joining the WRA matters:

1. Elevating the Profession

The WRA works tirelessly to elevate the profile of reflexology as a legitimate, evidence-informed health practice. Whether it’s through outreach, partnerships, or public education, the Association ensures that our work is respected and recognized. By joining, you contribute to a collective voice that shapes how reflexology is perceived in Washington and beyond.

2. Advocacy That Matters

Healthcare laws and licensing requirements can change rapidly. The WRA monitors these developments and advocates for reflexologists at the state level. This ensures that your right to practice is protected and that reflexology is included in important conversations about complementary and integrative health. Membership means you’re not navigating these waters alone—you have a dedicated team looking out for your interests.

3. Lifelong Learning and Growth

Through workshops, conferences, and training events, the WRA provides reflexologists with the tools to grow both professionally and personally. Whether you’re just starting out or have decades of experience, there is always more to learn. As a member, you gain access to continuing education that deepens your knowledge and strengthens your practice.

4. A Community That Understands

Reflexology can sometimes feel isolating, especially if you’re working solo or in a niche wellness practice. The WRA fosters connection among like-minded practitioners who understand the joys and challenges of this path. Networking, mentorship, and mutual support are all part of what membership offers.

5. Credibility and Confidence

When clients see that you’re a member of a professional organization, it enhances your credibility. It signals your commitment to high standards, ethics, and continuing education. It builds trust—and in our line of work, trust is everything.

Be a Part of Something Bigger

Joining the Washington Reflexology Association isn’t just about what you receive—it’s about what you give. Your membership supports the growth of reflexology across the state, helps new practitioners find their footing, and ensures the integrity of our work for years to come.

Every voice matters. Every membership counts. By standing together, we amplify our impact and secure a stronger future for reflexology in Washington.

If you believe in the power of touch, the value of connection, and the importance of professional unity—the time to join is now.

fMRI Research

fMRI Research Foot Reflexology

by Barbara & Kevin Kunz

Functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging (fMRI) studies provide illustration of some of reflexology’s basic tenets. In three separate studies, Hong Kong researchers explored with fMRI what happens in the brain when pressure or technique is applied to specifc reflex areas of the left foot. Their finding: the specific parts of the brain activated by such work correlates with reflexology’s theory and intended use. CLICK here to read the complete article.
